But the Runescape developer says it is changing the guidelines

"They have not been able to accept the offer," 117 said. "I am so unhappy and dissatisfied with Jagex and I regret for this long journey that I'm unable to give you the opportunity to share this idea with you.

117 reported that they offered Jagex an option in the form of RuneScape Gold dropping their application once Jagex had released theirs, and also giving Jagex "collaborative management" over Runelite HD's design style.

"They have not been able to accept the offer," 117 said. "I am so unhappy and dissatisfied with Jagex and I regret for this long journey that I'm unable to give you the opportunity to share this idea with you. The mod isn't able to be in line with Jagex's guidelines for third-party client applications, but the Runescape developer says it is changing the guidelines in the coming week, adding references to projects that alter the appearance to the player.

Original Runelite creator Adam1210 shared his views on Reddit and said that the ability to allow Runelite HD to continue would have a direct benefit for the future updates that are made by Jagex.

"I also have a strong disagreement with including it in the "third rules of third parties," Adam1210 said. "Most of those guidelines are trying to determine where the line of distinction between quality of life] and cheating is and I'm convinced that the majority of people are of the opinion that the current guidelines are a great example of this, and it keeps the integrity of the game.

But there isn't an disadvantage in any way for improved graphics It only impacts you when you enable it. So - this is really an abuse of guidelines. This is, in the end, an inconvenience for everyone involved and I'd like to see Jagex could reconsider."

Some fans in this Runelite HD project have taken to the town square of Falador which is the capital city of one of Runescape's principal kingdoms, for a sit-in protest similar to the one World of Warcraft players held in July. Fans can be seen in the video below, posting an open-ended text message criticizing Jagex for their decision and hashtags such as #Free117. Another video shows even more people "marching" on the streets of Falador Square OSRS Fire Cape Buy.
