The most beautiful castles in Prague and its surroundings
Summer Palace of Troy
The Troja Summer Palace is a country residence of the aristocratic Sternberg family. One of the most beautiful castles in Prague was built in the 17th century for Count Vaclav Sternberg, who wanted to have a property similar in architecture to the green villas of Rome. The Count's wish was realized by the architect Matei, who built a summer palace for the aristocrat in the style of classical Roman palazzos.
A walk through the Troja Castle in Prague will allow you to see:
The magnificent imperial hall;
Chinese rooms;
Zoo;
Botanical Garden.
When visiting the palace, you can also visit the wine museum and take a look at one of the temporary exhibitions that are constantly organized here.
Stenice
The Stěnice Castle became accessible to visitors relatively recently, although the first mentions of it can be found in the chronicles of the 14th century. During the years of socialism, the majestic building was given to the state farm, no one was engaged in maintaining its condition, and it gradually deteriorated. It was possible to return the castle to its presentable appearance in 2000 with the help of reconstruction work, and since its completion, Stěnice has been one of the best castles in Prague.
What can you see while walking along Stenitsa? For lovers of antiquity, the following are offered: a historical exhibition, a collection of carriages and stagecoaches. Also, having visited the castle, you will be able to see the life traditional for a noble family of the nineteenth century.
You can get to Stěnice from the center of Prague by car or by public transport – there are regular buses. A taxi ride will be more expensive, for which you will have to pay 50 euros. Stěnice is open for visits from May to October, travelers from Russia can use the audio guide service.
Letensky Castle
Letna Castle was built in the 19th century on the site of the Belvedere, which was destroyed during the war between France and Saxony. The building was erected as a restaurant for the public strolling in the park on the Letna River. The city government commissioned the architect Ignaz Ullman to design the building. The construction was completed in 1863. The architecture of the castle is in the neo-Renaissance style, with luxurious gardens laid out around the palace-restaurant.
There are currently three restaurants in Letná Castle, and the building itself is rented out by the city authorities for ceremonies and cultural events. You can get there by tram: there are both daytime and nighttime routes.
