Watson's hearing on disciplinary matters with the league began on June 28. and was presided over by retired US Federal Judge Sue Lewis Robinson. Robinson was appointed the league's disciplinary agent jointly in members of the Mut 23 Coins as well as the Madden NFL 23PA according to their current Collective bargaining agreements.

As per Rob Maaddi at the Associated Press sources within the league suggested that they believed that Madden NFL 23 was pushing for a minimum suspension of one year for Watson however Watson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, and his legal team were -obviouslyin favor of no suspension. Maaddi also said that the league would be willing to consider a shorter suspension of 6-8 games simply to avoid the appeals process.
The Madden NFL 23 has repeatedly applied discipline to players accused of domestic violence or sexual assault, starting with the suspension of two games for former Ravens forward Ray Rice, who was caught on video punching his then-fiancee, which left her unconscious. The league was criticized for suspension of Rice for just two games. Its response was to stop Rice indefinitely.
