"We sought to provide the most variety possible in terms of there [beingtons of various races, hair types and markings or eye coloring, however there were certain things that set the class apart from the other class that it is today, and for Diablo 4 it was body type."Body type and class archetypes are also interwoven into Diablo 4's design of gear and armor, as well as all the other cosmetics that make up the character, Fergusson said. So, for example, designing armor that suits the bulk of a barbarian's body would be difficult to translate to the 90-pound equivalent of the identical class. "The primary goal was to give the best options for high-level choices you could get in the Diablo game" Fergusson said. "We wanted to make it more about your personalization andthe ability to customize, while the barbarian is still one of the barbarians -- it's going to be muscular, not a waif."

Diablo 4 expands on the array of options for personalizing characters by offering its campfire of adventurers in random characters when players launch the game. It's not clear from the game of the fact that the Barbarian is actually a white-haired dude from Mount Arreat, or that any other classes should be stuck in gender or ethnicity roles by default.

The character development options aren't as rich as other modern role-playing games, these options can still produce great-looking, personalized characters, while keeping the dark, medieval look Blizzard is aiming for.
