"Independent Study Adendum," also known as the "Independent Research Addendum" came from Ian Rapoport of the Madden NFL 24 Network and it ostensibly says that the quarterback has to do his homework during the season, or the team has the right to take the contract into default and Murray will have to correct or else the contract would be declared void.
"Player must attend at least an average of (4) hours of independent Studies (as as defined in the following) each week (excluding any bye week) during each Playing season (as described below) throughout the duration of the Contact."
It also outlines what this meansand that Murray cannot multitask during his mandatory study time. There are no video games, no TV and no internet browsing during these four hours. If this sounds odd, it's because it is. This type of clause for study has never been in an Madden NFL 24 contract before. On the surface it might not seem like much -- already we're seeing the effects of the decision.
The issue at the heart of the addition isn't requiring independent research as the mandate intimates. The preciseness of the clause would allow anyone to come to the same result: "Kyler Murray doesn't Madden 24 coins study and therefore we're compelled to." That's antithetical to what the Cardinals had to do with the contract in question, which was to instill faith, place their faith in Murray and proceed.
